Bone Loss
Bone metabolism is a dynamic process of replacing older bone cells with new bone cells. When we are young, more new cells are generated than lost resulting in bone growth. As we age, fewer new cells are generated than lost and we begin to lose bone mass.
Using a sophisticated biochemical marker, we can now measure the process of bone loss by testing the urine of patients for the presence of bone breakdown products (deoxypyridinoline (Dpd), type I collagen crosslinks). The greater the amount of Dpd found in urine the higher the rate of bone loss. Once a high rate of bone loss has been recognized, intervention in the form of diet, exercise and supplementation can help prevent further loss and in some cases actually build bone. Remember once you are on a bone building program, the fastest way to determine its success is by testing your rate of bone loss, which should begin to decline in 30 to 90 days.

Heavy Metal Toxicity
Exposure to heavy metals such as Arsenic, Lead, and Mercury, is a common occurrence in our society. Heavy metals may enter our body through food, water, air, or absorption through the skin. Symptoms of chronic exposure may develop over months or even years and may mimic unrelated medical conditions. We now have the ability at Full Circle Health Clinic to measure heavy metal toxicity through a new blood test that we are offering at our clinic. This test will provide us with a new and exciting tool to provide a more comprehensive evaluation of our patient’s total health. Please call the clinic to find out more about how you can be evaluated for heavy metal toxicity.

Hormone Testing
There are many factors associated with hormonal imbalance and increased risk of breast cancer including:
Declining levels of progesterone with age and/or with removal of the ovaries in hysterectomy
Environmental, “xeno”-hormones in the form of pollutants and pesticides
Oral contraceptives
Synthetic hormone replacement therapy
These factors can contribute to an excess of estrogen in the body known as “estrogen dominance.” Since estrogen stimulates cell growth, a predominance of it, especially in the absence of adequate levels of progesterone (common in the menopausal years with the waning of ovulation), presents an increased risk of cancer, particularly in the breast.
